Kids too, have become hooked, for lack of a better term, to cellphones. They see their parents clutching the coolest phone known to man and they want to have the same too; not only for its various applications but more so to brag to their friends. It poses some kind of statement for kids when they have the same stylish gadgets like everyone else.
SHOULD YOU ALLOW YOUR CHILD {TO OWN} A CELLPHONE?
What happens then when your children start to ask for one? Should you just concede without hesitation? There’s no doubt that young kids should really not be permitted to own a cellular just yet. But for the older children, it wholly depends on the parents’ judgment.
Cellphones are necessary for communication and if you are out of the house most of the time and your kids happen to be out too; with their peers or some school activity; getting in touch with them whenever both parents and children are apart is important. Cellular phones will definitely make this simpler for everyone.
Plus, cell phones can be very helpful also to children in times of emergencies.
TEACHING KIDS TO BE RESPONSIBLE
One way to turn this cellphone ownership subject into something constructive is teaching children about responsibility. Setting parameters as to their usage is a key factor when thinking about giving kids their own cellphones. While listening to songs and taking pictures may be some of the things that children want to be able to do with their phones; allowing them to surf the internet or chat minus parental guidance should be something parents need to think twice about.
In this case, giving them a phone with only the bare necessities could be the answer. Likewise, giving these cellphones as rewards for doing well in class will teach children that they have to show good behavior in order to be permitted to have their own cellphones.
Lastly, one way to also show them about responsibility is training them to put aside allowance so they can buy their own prepaid loads; or both parents and kids can split the cost of the cellphone. There are various ways for parents to get something constructive from these gadgets.
